Ms. Anwar succeeded in excluding the witness’s statements pursuant to pre-trial motions, and the DA was forced to dismiss the DUI charge. Defendant facing 10 years in prison for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence (DUI causing death) of an elderly woman. After a lengthy sentencing hearing, Ms. Anwar was able to convince the judge to sentence the defendant to an in-custody drug and alcohol treatment program and 5 years of probation. No prison time was imposed.

Possession and Transportation Not Guilty
Possession for sales and transportation of methamphetamine jury trial where defendant was seen by officer dropping tennis-ball sized package of controlled substances onto passenger’s lap. Passenger admitted to officer that drugs were defendants. Defendant arrested and marijuana found concealed on his person. Defendant’s phone had text messages consistent with drug sales. Ms. Anwar was able to suppress the marijuana on his person and jury found defendant NOT GUILTY of both counts.
